My apologies, I’m about to ask a question that has been asked many, many times before. Whose memory did you use when you upgraded your 17” Macbook Pro? Do I have to worry about voiding the warranty if I don’t upgrade with Apple?

I have a 15" Macbook Pro and I used OWC (www.macsales.com). I'm 99.9% sure that adding 3rd-party RAM does NOT void the waranty.

If you go to Newegg.com and do a search for notebook memory you will see some comments from users that use it for their macs.

OK, I went to Macsales.com and I'm seeing a huge difference in price for a 4Gig upgrade kit - As low as $92 and as high as $179. Does it make a difference between these choices or am I safe going with the lowest cost kit?

I'm still JustGetnStarted

I would stick with the name brands like Crucial, Kingston, and a couple others. I wouldn't go for the cheapest because you might get what you pay for. And that would be a bad stick in a day, month, etc...

I tend to lean toward Crucial cause of the lifetime warranty.

OWC brand name ram is quality RAM. You really can't go wrong anyways because they offer a lifetime warranty. I have only heard good things about OWC branded RAM.

I use Corsair in my MacBook, and PNY in my desktop, and before that, GeiL. No issues with any of them, and most every company offers a lifetime warranty.

Also, check out Newegg for the DDR2-667 PC2-5300 SO-DIMMs that you need, little be cheaper prices for the exact same stuff.
