When doing a tutorial for some video program I found some keyboard short cuts didn't work. I went to the keyboard settings to set it up. Initially when I bought this Mac Studio I tried to set up this keyboard I had been using before with no success. It calls it a Logitech. Same thing now. I did the test - hit the key directly to the right of the shift key on the left side. Then it says this keyboard cannot be recognized. I turn the keyboard upside down and clearly there's an Apple logo on the back. I'm pretty sure I bought this from the Apple Store some years ago - 5-8? I thought for a minute it was a Logitech keyboard but THAT Logitech keyboard is in the garage. Any idea how to get Mac (Sequoia 15.6.1) to recognize this keyboard? I believe this keyboard I got at the same tome I bought my Mac Pro 7,1. I CAN get a newer keyboard but like WTF? There must be a solution for Apple recognizing its own keyboard.

OK. Wait. This is DEFINITELY an Apple keyboard. It's a Magic keyboard. It even identified as Henry's Magic Keyboard. Model Name: "Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad", yet if I select "Change Keyboard Type" it says "My Logitech device cannot be identified and will not be usable until its set up. But it says I have pressed a key on my Apple keyboard. Please press the keys on the keyboard that can't be identified. WTF? On the tutorial for DaVinci there are at least two shortcuts I cannot do. I've only jjust started so there might be more. Command / and Command B. They do nothing. Is there a weird keyboard setting I'm missing here? Has the command menu been taken over by another application? And why can it not recognize the "Z" key?

Hm. No comments. I can try “forget this device” and try and see if I can reset it. But then I risk forgetting the device. It seems that once again I’ve stepped into uncharted territory with technology.

Is it possible you have some Logitech keyboard software running in the background that is intercepting your keystrokes and misinterpreting them?

Thank you for your response. I don’t see how. I never had that keyboard on this Mac. And I did a clean install of everything on this Mac. So I’m not sure how the logitech keyboard software got in here. I am using a Logitech mouse though.

Are you using one of those USB receivers for the mouse? Those receivers present themselves to the computer as being a mouse and keyboard. That's probably why the Mac thinks you have a Logitech keyboard connected, which should be fine/irrelevant here since you aren't actually using that keyboard.

I could be mistaken, but I believe the "Change Keyboard Type" button only applies to third-party keyboards. It doesn't apply to the Magic Keyboard. Apple/macOS already knows what kind of keyboard it is since they made it.

There's probably nothing wrong with your keyboard if it's working fine in other apps. Does Command-B bold text in a text editor like Pages or Notes? If so, you can be certain the keyboard isn't the problem.

You may just have some keyboard shortcut conflicts. Review your Keyboard Customization settings in DaVinci. You could also review keyboard shortcuts at the OS level in System Settings > Keyboards > Keyboard Shortcuts.

Thank you. Command B does change to BOLD/regular. Thank you. Good idea about the USB receiver for logitech but that might not be the issue here. I was thinking that the change keyboard type only applying to 3rd party. I will check the BM Forum link.

It doesn’t indeed seem to be a black magic/da Vinci resolve issue. I’m using the Final Cut Pro template in resolve. And that makes at least two commands, the two I noted, and maybe more ineffective because there are two of them for each. So I have to decide which command I wanted to delete.
