Uhoh. I've been looking after it so well. Bought a sleeve plus new backpack to keep it nice, safe and clean.

Yet today, I've just noticed a really small hairline scratch on the screen. Thought it was food at first but it's definitely a tiny little scratch into the display.

The only thing I can think of the other day when I was holding my iPhone was next to it, I did think I caught the screen but barely anything at all. Couldn't see anything afterwards either.

Gutted. Panicked and bought Apple Care for £79 straight away because I had time left to get it.

Have I done the right thing there and should I now take it into Apple? I think I'll keep noticing the scratch, even as small as it is.

You are sure it is a scratch from your phone and not from the keyboard or the area between the keyboard and touchpad touching the screen while transporting it? Is the scratch line straight? You should make sure no pressure against display lid during transport. I mean you just mentioned gotten new backpack and sleeve that might sound possible to me if you carried it with you.

Do you have a photo of a scratch?

Of course not, if you scratched it. Warranty and Apple Care does not cover cosmetic damages if it still works OK, which it does obviously.

There seems to be plenty of information on scratch repair on the internet. Maybe give that a look and see if anything is worth trying.

I tend to not fuss any longer about cosmetic issues. But if it were on the screen, I would find it distracting. Personally, I would definitely try some remedy to make it less obvious.

I would be very cautious with tips trying to fix scratches on the screen with ar-coating. You may end up with much worse situation...

Maybe a screen protector would hide it a bit, but other than that, I see no good way.

It says "each claim will be subject to a policy excess of £ 79 for screen damage or external enclosure damage".

I thought that would mean they can repair screens under Apple Care...

I will ask for a refund if not.

Don't fancy trying some of those fixes but thanks for giving me the heads up. Looks like I'd have to live it with then.

It's tiny but noticeable on a white screen. Can't be anything in my backpack or keyboard which has done this, although I'm not 100%. I've taken such good care of it but I do remember that time my phone got close to the screen, probably touched it.

Thanks — I'll just see if they can refund AC if you really don't think it covers screen damage (scratches).

Better ask them to make sure if paying accidental damage cost would allow to have it fixed but I doubt it should have bigger issue than cosmetic scratch alone to allow it.

Sounds like scratch is moderately severe if it shows up on a white screen too. Normally hairline scratches are something that shows only in good light (like flashlight from certain angle) on a black screen. So maybe hitting it with your phone might be the reason. How long is that scratch exactly and is it horizontal and straight? Photo would help to understand better.

You can get an anti glare screen protector so that maybe you can lay it over the scratch?

I will say get any screen protector so nothing more can happen

sorry late to the party. i noticed scratches on my 3week old macbook air m2 as well. i had it replaced with a brand new one because i refused to have the screen repaired for 129CAD (i purchased apple care for peace of mind). i am this on the replacement macbook air and just got off the phone with hardware support from apple. They encouraged me to report this or have anyone who experiencing the same issue so that apple be made aware. They cited the keyboard issue as an example of an issue that i think apple eventually recognized a design flaw and eventually did something about it.
