My birthday is coming up, and I need a budget gift for my birthday.

Personally, I wanted to wait for the 15 Pro, but there is a trade-in offer where I can give my 13 in for a 14 Pro if I were to switch to Verizon.

I asked for a MacBook Pro for my birthday, but due to budget constraints, we can't do that.

Is there a different Apple product I could ask for? I feel like the iPhone 14 Pro would be the best value since it is free.

Here is my current Apple lineup:
- iPhone 13
- iPad mini 6
- AirPods Pro 1
- M1 MacBook Air
- Apple Watch Series 8
- HomePod mini
- Apple TV 4K 2022

Thanks in advance!

I think it's okay. I'm on Verizon with 2 lines. One of my lines were eligible for an upgrade and qualified for the $1000 trade in credit. I traded the 12 pro max and got the 14 pro max for my wife. While it's not free but it knocked it down to $5.55 per month for 36 month. Still a good deal imo.

This is for the regular 14 Pro, base model, I am fine with that.

Keep in mind that there is no such a thing as a free lunch. You are tied for 36 months in bill credits with Verizon which kick in after 2 months - so plan to pay your monthly rate for 1 line($60-$80?) plus 1000/36 for 2 months straight.

Then you deal will kick in and you will only owe $60-$80 monthly for service only.

Why it is not free? Because there are other places offering $15-$45 services with 5g and hotspot, so you are effectively paying the difference for your new phone and tied with it for 36 mos.

So they are being sneaky about it even if I do this "trade-in" thing...

How have they not been sued...

There’s always going to be trade in offers from carriers. I don’t see the big upgrade from a 13 to a 14 Pro. Unless you’re interested in a specific feature I think the excitement will wear off quickly. I know you probably want something but I don’t think this would be very interesting.

Happy birthday Willi! It’s your birthday, you deserve to treat yourself to what ever you want 😃 HB2U!!

We are at the halfway point to iPhone 15 and trade in deal isn’t much of a deal. I’d wait it out until September.

Put that money into a 401 (k) or an IRA, something that will grow as you grow older. You will be very happy later in life when that phone is just waste.

Be aware that nothing is free. Verizon is recouping the cost of the phone through your monthly bill. $60.00 a line is a significant amount. I pay $60.00 a month for two lines with Xfinity Wireless. If you have Xfinity (my only choice for broadband, perhaps you have better alternatives) then look into their plan. Xfinity uses Verizon towers so the coverage is the same as Verizon.

Personally, I would get an Apple Credit card, buy the phone outright, pay the monthly installments on the Apple Card and get 3% back on the purchase. Look into trading your phone in at Apple. Overall, I think that is a better deal. I would also wait until the iPhone 15 comes out as it will have USB-C connection. The argument could be made that waiting for the next best phone, you will always be waiting.

Only you can decide what you want to do with your phone and service. If you feel good about the deal, go for it. My opinion isn't worth squat to someone else and their desires.

As great as the iPhone 14 Pro has been for me, as a recommendation I’d always suggest waiting if your into the following year since launch.

That is unless the deal on offer is truly a good one.

$1,000 for a trade in is a good deal unless the final monthly cost is going up relative to what you are paying now.

However it is likely (not guaranteed) that this fall when the 15 comes out that the same deal will still exist for trading in the 13.

But it's not likely that the 15 will be a big change from the 14.

I don't upgrade one up, I always wait for 2 years, I just upgraded from iPhone 12 mini to iPhone 14 Pro Max and I love it.

Personally I like to receive gifts I know I'll be keeping. If you get an iPhone you may be trading it in again in a year or two.
For me I'd stay away from an iPhone and opt to ask for a iPad or AirPods and keep the gift, not sell it in or trade it in. It if you will be keeping the iPhone then go for it.
I did get a pair of AirPods Pro version 1 for Christmas though and have been blown away by them. Love them.

Depends how old you are and what you value in life. Mobile phones are all the rage for young kids and I get that, I was the same a few years ago. Now I don’t care so much, but I get them through work anyway.

For me - no, it wouldn’t be worth signing up for another contract for 24/36 months when you already have a working iPhone 13. Not knowing the full details of the Verizon offer, but it’s probably cheaper to sell the 13 and buy a 14 Pro outright if that‘s what you really want to do.

I’d recommend something that stands the test of time. Maybe a nice quality watch (to mix it up from the AW)? I received Apple stocks as a teen. That was a nice gift. It fuelled my passion for Apple and also taught me about the stock market. I also ended up studying finance as my major, as a result.

Do you have a drivers license? The freedom that comes with it is hard to beat. Can be worth wishing for some money for driving classes, or to help save up for a first car.

Do you have any plans for the summer? Bring a friend and go on an amazing adventure together. Purchase some cheap tickets. When you are young it’s fun to travel “cheap”. Those will be memories for life. Not just a consumable.

I think phones are just boring these days.

If it’s free then go ahead treat yourself. But be advised the IPhone 15 series will have a better modem Qualcomm X70 I believe that’s suppose have better battery life and reception.

Eh. it's technically not really free. There is a fine print that when you do a trade in, you get it in a form of bill credit that ties to your account for 36 month. If you are a type of person who upgrade 1-2 years, this may not be an option. Fortunately for my wife she doesn't upgrade and her last iphone was a 7 plus so it's definitely worthy of an upgrade in my books. She is not into the latest bells and whistles, she plans to use the 14 PM for another 7 years before she'll be upgrading.

you wont see any difference between 13 pro and 14 pro except for that DI , keep your 13 pro and wait for same trade in offers for 15 pro series
