My Western Digital My Book 320GB external hard drive went kaput the other day after only a year (about 1 week out of warranty). I am not terribly upset since it gave me an excuse to buy a Time Capsule, which so far is working fine. I don't know what to do with the My Book itself, since it contains personal info and I'm wary of just throwing it out, but I was wondering about the firewire cable - is that a special cable or might I be able to use it again on a different firewire device in the future? Thanks.

if you are worried about your data, you can always take a hammer to the drive ...

As far as the cable, keep it, you can find another use for it.
