My book for Mac/ read only/ Final Cut

Hi,

I was looking for an external hard drive to use with FCP and was given My Book for Mac. Is this the right piece of kit? It only seems to want to back up my time machine and won't let me write to it (says read only).

Please give me some dumbed down advice!!!

There's no need to purchase a Mac hard drive. All hard drives will work with Macs.

Sounds like you need to format it. Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app, select the drive in the left-hand list, click the Erase tab, change the format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), give it a classy name (mine is TARDIS), and click the Erase button.
