My Book Studio, why 2 firewire ports?

I need an external hard drive to use with Time Machine. Im taking a look at the product below

It comes with 2 firewire ports. Why is that? Do I have to conect both to get full performance? If I do, will I still need the power cable?

Is there a similar product anyone would recomend? Requirements:

-1TB or more
-not black enclosure, silver is great, white is fine.
-easy way to turn it on/off like a power button in the back
-If possible, faster interface than USB 2.0
