My brand new Macbook! (screen problem)

My Macbook's screen has an area in the center where if I turn off the light or put it to sleep it stays half lit. There's a black area where its all off with a circle in the middle that is brighter than the rest (both on and off). Anybody else had this problem? Methinks I'm gunna call apple tomorrow morning (its too late now)

Its only about 2 weeks old too

had to turn off the flash to make it visible

see the circle in the center of the screen? that area its almost as if the light stays half on or something cause i can see everything that is in that area despite the light being off.

i can move the mouse around and see the movement too

the brightness of the circle is somewhere between "1" and "0" if that helps


I just made the switch recently from PC's and I'm loving it so far. First screen problem I've ever had with all the computer's I've owned though.

I am pretty sure that the circle is the apple logo on the front of the MB.

from what i remember the clear apple logo is just a open window to the backlight, if the brightness is down and there is enough ambient light coming from the apple side i can see how this could happen.

you sir, are a genius! I turned off the light at the back of my desk and that fixed it!

Glad it works cause I really didn't want to be laptopless for school

the first Apple laptop i owned i did the same thing as you just did. Only i didnt have this forum at the time so i wandered over to my local apple store and walked out slightly embarrased and with a red face

Glad its not a problem that will keep you from using your laptop

you must have had a hard time reproducing it for them in the store lol

i remember the first time i saw my powerbook do that. i thought it was really funny. so i went around with a flashlight showing everyone lol.

if its really bright you can see the entire apple logo.
