His friend had an extra one from his company so he sold it to my brother. My brother said he won't use it because he has an ipod and he works and wouldn't use it to the full potential so he's offering it to me.... the younger brother who is tech savvy haha.

Best day ever. "Hey do you want this ipod touch thing?"

"uhhhhhhhhhhhhh yessss...."

So, I'll be on here posting a lot of questions I'm sure. I will have it jailbroken first thing. I can't get it until next weekend though because I'm in college and don't have time to go home this weekend, blaah

There's a phrase I haven't heard for a long time but fits perfectly and it goes to the effect that if you fell in the dock you wouldn't get wet!! :D

Congrats! What a kind brother you have.

I would suggest you use iTunes 7.5 as first hurdle to doing the jailbreak as to avoid any issues when you need to update to 1.1.2 to jailbreak.

and of course if you need any jailbreak help I for one would be happy to help :)

I think its dumb that people want to risk their like 400 dollar machine so quickly...You could really screw the machine and lose all that money.

Your money I guess.

I'll be back here next weekend. What is SDK? I just want to play NES games on it because that looked really cool

Should I not jailbreak it?

Mixed opinions. I would say you should just wait for 15 days and then decide if you still want to after the SDK is out and somewhat implemented.

What is SDK, how much will it costs, and what exactly comes with SDK?

sorry I'm a newb

SDK = Software Development Kit and will be used by software making companies to make their own apps for the iPhone and touch and will be similarly moderated like Apple Widgets are...so you can be sure your iPod or iTouch will not have a voided warranty with extra applications on it, and that few technical difficulties can be achieved.

They may cost money via iTunes, but I bet there will be alternative ways to get them on the touch once the SDK becomes public. Some apps may be free...it really depends.

I can wager you won't pay more than 5 bucks an app...and considering they are supported and well made, you can't go wrong there.

If the SDK does make things pretty expensive for people, though, you can be sure people will jailbreak all over the place then...and then it will be only a matter of time before Apple responds by lowering prices or perhaps introducing some incentive...or then again maybe they won't care.

Point is that I think it would be best to hold on for a few more days and see what this SDK brings about...keeping in mind once it is released it will take at least a week for us to see some idea of how the application downloading process and fees to pay will be like.

Thanks brownupsman

I will definitely be waiting until I decide to do any jailbreaking haha

No you can't; it's not an iPhone, you can't end up with an iBrick.
Go for it my friend.

Why then are there so many posts on this forum by people who Did the jailbreak thing and wound up with a Touch that no longer works?

You can screw it up.

With the 1.1.3 jailbreak yes, which, by current consensus, is pretty unreliable. 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 are fine and most stable at this time.

Holy crap that is amazing you really do have an awesome brother.

And so that I don not have to start another thread, what exactly is jailbreaking and why would the iTouch not be very good without it?:

yeah my brother is pretty cool. I think he feels bad about the yeaaaaars of tormenting me. He's 29 and I'm 21 so yeah I was the little brother that got picked on all the time.

His friend had 2 of them and sold one to my brother for like $150 and my brother kinda just gave it to me as a christmas gift he didn't get me earlier.

Jailbreaking is getting applications on your ipod touch. The iphone already has these applications but for some reason the ipod touch did not come with them.

I don't know much about this either so I am waiting until March before choosing to doing any jailbreaking
