Hello,

I'm canadian and my iPhone was just stolen yesterday in a bar ! and i don't want someone to use it ! are there ways to block it except the mobileMe functions ? I searched and google but didn't find anything for canada ! just for france !

Please help me !

Thanks :)

Thanks :) Yes i know but currently it cannot be located ! if i go to the police what can they do ? and if i go to my carrier ?

the police will say "ok we will look into it" which really means "we'll pretend like we are doing something"
what did you do in the bar for it to get stolen???
and the carrier might block the IMEI, and they might not. Depends on how lazy they are feeling

It was on the table and I think someone took it ! but if they block the imei it will be blocked on any carrier or only the one which it comes from ?

Ok thanks so the question is will it be blocked at all the carriers or not ?

not on all carriers. Just the carrier your phone is on. Like a stolen vzw i5 with a bad esn can prob be used on AT&T, idk since I don't have an at&t nano-sim nor would I like to report my phone stolen

Thanks but Are you sure of that ?

Sigh

All you can do is report it to your carrier and report it to your local police.

Unfortunately, iPhones are hot right now and so they're big targets for thieves. Never leave it unattended at a barroom table or restaurant booth - always pocket it.

Sorry to hear it happened to you, you're not alone though.

Thanks for the support ! My objective is to block my phone so that he won't be able to use it ! So what I want to know is that if he can use it if he changes the carrier or not

He won't be able to use it on another carrier unless it is an unlocked iphone from Apple directly since the carriers aren't selling unlocked phones and won't unlock it unless your contract is done. Report it to your carrier and the police and next time don't leave such a desired item out in the open.

this is so disheartening. i hope you have some luck getting it back.

Unfortunately there is a huge black market for IMEI blocked iPhones. Send them overseas and they are still valid.

Thank you very much for all your support ! I went to the police and they told me that they are going to see but i don't think i will get anything from them. I 'll go to the carrier tomorrow and see what they can do !

Thank you again for all you support !

If anybody has more information thanks in advance !

Incorrect. They will regardless of the theft

As of last year, Rogers and Fido definitely did not block IMEIs. It could have changed but I've seen no info to suggest that.

Telus and Bell didn't last I checked but that was two years ago.

To the OP: Please report back to tell us if your carrier indicated they will block IMEI as it would provide us some current info. Thanks!

Apparently Rogers refuses to as of now. I had a device blocked via IMEI back in 2006.

I would continue checking on iCloud every once in a while. Not many people are smart enough to restore the phone and everything like that.

"We aren't able to block an IMEI, but we can block usage via your SIM Card. This can also be done on your Rogers.com Profile. We don't have the ability to block an IMEI on a lost or stolen device. Only SIM card usage." - Rogers.
