HI...I have oddest question about the iphone and i dont know if i can explain it right but here goes...

When i'm on a call, I sometimes accidently hangup, put call on hold, activate/deactivate speaker etc...Basically my "face" is in contact with the touch screen as im talking and its hitting the "buttons"

What am i doing wrong?

I had a 2G prior to this and never has this problem.

This is the proximity sensor issue that everyone is talking about. I would recommend taking it to an Apple Store, duplicate the issue, and see if they will replace it.

TEG

Hopefully the 4.1 update will fix this issue. I just purchased an iPhone 4 last night and had the issue right away on my new phone. It really sucks!

wow thanks a mill folks, i had no idea. Of to research it now.

My annoyance is that "locking" your phone mid-call hangs up the call you're on. At least that is what I experienced. My 3G allowed this and would put an end to the proxmity sensor issue, no?

Why not just wait for the fix next week?

If you hit the home button before locking, it won't hang up.

Try November.

Nope. This will be fixed in 4.1: next week.

November is 4.2.

The proximity issue is the best news from the presentation, today. At least for me. I have an iphone, so why would I want any ipods? :) The nano seems especially lame.

I just installed the iOS 4.1 GM on my iPhone 4 and as far as I can tell it does not seem to affect the proximity sensor behavior. The way I tested is by standing in front of a mirror and making a call and watching the screen turning off and on depending how close the phone was to my face. I generally dont hold the phone so it touches my face anyway but I could see that the screen did turn on and off while holding it to my face and moving it a bit. Same as it did for 4.0.

The new HDR photo mode on the camera is cool though.
