My contacts do not display in Contacts, Messages or FaceTime

I recently wiped my drive and reinstalled High Sierra and now my contacts are not displaying in Contacts or Messages. Both my Gmail and iCloud account show in both programs under accounts and it shows it is synching the contacts. What else am I missing?
