Without doing anything, my CPU is idling at 50 (I am downloading something, but thats it)..

Is this a huge problem?
 
its now down to 46.. still seems high for not much going on.. is this normal?
 
That is a perfectly acceptable temperature for idling.
You could also have a look at Activity Monitor (Applications / Utilities /) and select All Processes and sort by CPU to see what the culprit may be.

Your running great no worries at all. Laptop not connected to anything it's around 45-50C connected to monitors, firewire, usb, printers and all that stuff 60 to 65 seems to be pretty normal. All that stuff creates a lot of heat.
