hey all,

Looking for some advice in buying My first macbook

Should i (all prices in AUD),

A) Buy the brand new 2.16ghz Black book for $2049 (student price)

B) Buy the old 2.0ghz Black book for $1749 (clearance)

The harddrive doesnt bother me, but does 160hz really make a difference for $300

thanks

It will only be used for,

Surfing the net, word processing, Listening to music.

I wont be using any major creative or development software, just usual basic apps

definitely go for the cheaper one. the things you'll be doing won't be taxing enough to warrant the 160 mhz increase. the 2 ghz macbook will suit you just fine.

Sorry to sound like a cracked record, but yeah, go with the older model and buy some third-party RAM with your savings.

thanks

thanks for the quick replies yes i was thinking of buying more ram for what i save

as long as the old one is a C2D then go for it, 0.16GHz is nothing.

Ditto the above! The slower processor with plenty of ram will beat the faster processor crippled by lack of ram.

The older 2.0ghz one is the model under the new one

Only differences are,
40Gb extra HDD Space (doesnt bother me already have an external 320GB drive lined up)
0.16GHZ
8x superdrive Vs 6x in the old and,
the newer one is n enabled (only $2.99 AUD but dont need it)

other then that they are both identical:D

I was in the same situation and I sprung for the older model. It amazing what happens when you stick in more RAM :p
