Hi all,
so yesterday i was installing the original dock files back in after having a colored one. I entered killall Dock into terminal to reset the dock. Then the dock disappeared and my wallpaper went grey. I can login in and get to applications but the dock gone with the gray wallpaper is obviously wrong. I would greatly appreciate help as I have already tried many solutions from other forums and websites. I just want this to be fixed.

What solutions did you already try, just so we don't repeat them?
How did you originally alter your Dock?
Does it also happen in another, even temporarily created, user account?
What Mac OS X version do you use?

Btw, does pressing CMD+OPTION+D bring up the Dock?

Restore from a backup. (I'm sure you have a backup, right?)

I can't begin to count the number of problems that have been reported by people playing around with user interface elements, like the Dock and Menu Bar. My best recommendation is leave them alone, rather than risk creating problems like you have now.

i already tried restoring from a backup
i tried many things like holding shift while the computer turns on
doing killall Dock again- terminal gives me
No matching processes belonging to you were found
some other codes ppl put online for terminal to fix similar problems and no luck
creating another account did not work- the new account had the same problem CMD+OPTION+D did not work
i originally altered the dock by moving new files for like a colored dock from the web i was putting my backup in and when i reset it it didn't come back
i have mac os x 10.7.3
btw i will leave it alone after this is fixed

It sounds like you've damaged or deleted your Dock.app. Do you not have a backup of your entire system? If not, use Lion Recovery to restore/repair your Lion installation.

Its fixed!

Thank you to everyone for your help i used lion recovery and reinstalled it and now everything is fine.
