For Christmas, I got myself a 12.9” iPad Pro (2018 model with WiFi and 256GB storage). I didn’t get the keyboard case that most people seem to get, though, and instead opted for just the regular folio case. I had a few reasons for this. One is that I don’t really think that I will be doing that much typing on it. I have both a desktop and MacBook Pro that I use when I want to long-form typing, and I’m also a bit of a keyboard snob with a lot of mechanical keyboards, so I figured I would prefer to pair the iPad with some kind of mech if I do need to do a lot of typing. And I also wanted to make it as thin and light as possible, and having a keyboard that I wouldn’t use much permanently attached to the device didn’t make a lot of sense to me.
So far, I would say it has been working out well. At first the screen seemed almost too big, like I was sitting too close to a big TV, but I’ve mostly gotten used to it and find the large display area to be quite nice. I find using the on-screen keyboard is actually pretty easy, even for “touch” typing. I’m typing this post with it and have surprisingly few typos. I have also tried using a Bluetooth mechanical keyboard and it works great as well, although I do still find using an iPad like this to be a little awkward due to the lack of a pointing device. Maybe the pencil would help here — I don’t have one and probably won’t be getting one.
Overall, I would say it’s a lot like the plus size phones were. It may seem big at first, but then you get used to it and going back to a smaller-screened device is difficult. I’m very happy with my purchase (and no, it isn’t bent).
