I posted a few comments on forums stating that I had massive battery drain on my ipad mini 4 on updating to iOS 11...since then I have used the device alot and updated some other devices and this is my opinion.

After the first day of upgrading my ipad mini 4 (32gb) the significant battery drain appears to have gone. I left it to fully charge after the update and the next morning i used for web browsing and email during the day. So far, the battery drain looks to be almost identical to what i had with ios 10. App loading times dont feel any different, the user interface animations are actually nice and smooth and not jittery like i had with the first version of ios 10.

In additon the very warm, if hot temperaturess, i noticed on the first day of usage has almost disappeared... The ipad mini only gets warm, if at all hot, when rendering complicated/heavy web pages, heavy downloads and if going back and forth through lots of UI animations etc.

All in all, im actually very pleased with the update, it hasnt negatively affected the performance or battery life of the device significantly... as far as ive experienced so far. The only drawback id say is that i think the multitasking isnt as efficient as the previous version (more on that below in comparison to ipad pro)

I have also installed the update on my sixth generation ipod touch. Remeber this device only has 1 GB of RAM. Im pleasently surprised how well ios11 runs on it, it is actually pretty smooth, the only slight slowdown possible being when switching apps, but this could depend on what content the apps running have and is visible in the multitasking screen. All other usage seems fine and not noticing any significant battery drain. Even with many apps open, i dont see much of a slowdown at all, and thats with multiple tabs in safari... which dont reload when going back after switching to another app. This seems to indicate on such a device the 1GB of RAM is holding up pretty well...

Lastly i also update my iphone 6S and ipad pro 7.9. Despite the update sucking power from my battery on the iphone, its been running great since the update... similar app load times, battery usage and smooth UI. On my ipad Pro 7.9 its a similar story.... however i think there might be a slight decrease in the battery performance of this ipad.... I’ll have to use it longer to know for sure. I dont think anyone expected the A9 to have performance problems in the immediate future anyway... these devices are still very very powerful.

In summary i dont think anyone with an A8 device should worry about updating to ios11. For sure thats the case for ipad mini 4 and ipod touch sixth gen. In my experience the perfomrance of ios 11 on my ipad mini 4 and ipad Pro are very similar... that is for use of safari, mail and video etc i don't see any significant observable differences in fluidity in day to day usage.

The only concern i have is the multitasking, i kind of liked the smoothness and immediateness of slideover and quick app switches in the previous versions. Maybe apple will optimise the speed and usability in future updates of ios11, but so far thats the only issue im missing from the last ios.

Ill keep this updated after another week with the general run times im gettin with these devices on ios11.

Updated my devices to the latest ios11 (11.0.1) and already seeing some improvements to my battery life. Especially on the iphone 6S, ipad mini 4 and Pro.
