My question is, is now a good time to buy? I know it's over due for an update and leopard ships in 4ish months. I guess my question is, will the imac get updated before leopard?

I think the whole desktop line is due for a re-giggle, the laptops have had 90% sales growth since the Intel switch but the desktops have stayed flat, and they are ALL due an update, FWIW I'd have expected the iMac to have Santa Rosa by now.
I think something major is going to happen with the whole desktop line-up (Mini and iMac, NOT pro). It's been way too long for them. I would hold out a little longer and wait to see what happens. If nothing else, after they're updated, you could buy from the refurb store if the updates are less than stellar.
