Well, I have been going around here fussing about my fear of backlight bleed on The new iPad.
I went through three or four iPad 2 last year at launch because they had awful backlight bleed. Any apps with black screens, movies, starting up the iPad, etc. showed awful backlight bleed even at "normal" brightness levels. I decided to wait on "iPad HD" or whatever was next (hoping it would be in the fall).
Well, I went in a dark hallway and powered up The new iPad. That along with further testing has me very happy.
Yes, it has the tiniest amount of backlight bleed on an all black screen even on normal brightness, but it's virtually imperceptible in normal app use. Probably better or at least matching my first generation iPad that was always fine.
Even on the all black screen, it's not bad at all! I can even turn brightness up to 85 percent and use a primarily all black app, with no issue!
Well done Apple, on my screen at least! This is a keeper. Now I do have a Verizon version coming too, this was a Wi-Fi. If the Verizon looks as good, I will keep it. If this one looks better, I will keep this one.
Overall, hopefully, the backlight bleed is much more a thing of the past now. The color looks great too. It might not look perfect on all white screen, but on my iPad, I don't use all white very often.
I apologize for any negativity leading up to the product!
Also, maybe I'm crazy, but the sound seems a bit better than the iPad 2s I tried to keep last year.
