my house
I brought 2 number from T-Mobile and activated a 3G and the first gen iPhone w/ AT&T on 7/31 w/ a family plan.

I just got the first bill that is from 7/31-8/4. $206????

Here is the breakdown:
Monthly service 152.99
Usage Charges 2.35
Credits/Adjustments/Other Charges 51.03

I'm guessing the adjustments should be negative?

I expected to pay some sort of activation fee but this is ridiculous and to top it off, AT&T customer service is closed on Sundays????

Anyone else get this surprise?

You didn't break the charges down into details but they seem about correct.

A family plan in the neighborhood of $50.
Two data/text plans around $50 each.
Activation charges for the phones/numbers around $50. (credits/adj/other)

I'll try again to explain AT&T Billing although I might just add confusion to the mix.

Your bill is for the next month of service, plus the prorated amount for the 5 days of service you mentioned. Your normal monthly bill will be significantly lower, since you won't have the activation fee(s) and the prorated 5 day's tacked on to it. Hope that Helps?.?

It was prorated for last month, and then you are charged for the coming month. I guess T-Mobile is the only US wireless company that doesn't do this, but it's standard practice for the rest.

Oh, got beat to the punch. :)

ETA: this from one of the MANY OTHER BILL THREADS (please use the search function next time):

Go to your online account. Click on "View Bill Summary." Then look for this
bt_viewFullBill.gif
and click on it, and you'll see every bit of your bill spelled out, including how they came to the prorated charges and everything.

They are charging you for a last month (prorated), and the coming month (full), and for the upgrade/activation fee, taxes, etc. Look on the bill. I promise it's all there.

I got my iPhone on 7/25, and my bill was $149 with no mistakes. *I have 450 minutes, the data plan of course, and 1500 text messages*

you know what? I thought that it had something to do with the next month bill. So is it like rent where you "pre-pay"?

Then are overages charged on the next bill?

Makes sense, thanks :D
