the other day i got my first iPhone ever.
i've been using iOS for over a year on my iPad and iPod touch.
i've been using a MacBook Pro for about the same length of time. i love all 3 products. i've wanted an iPhone for a long while, it has always felt like a major part of the puzzle missing in my ecosystem. been stuck on a blackberry.
i'm so happy i have an iPhone now, its not until i've been using it today and yesterday that i've been able to really appreciate having one, especially with Siri.
for a start - it feels really refreshing to use a powerful device and it be my phone at the sometime. I'm not used to having a decent computer/ 'smart phone' as a phone. now it feels great. just for detail, i got the iPhone 4s.
but i guess the main thing i wanted to ask about with this thread is - what was Siri like 2 years ago when it was released in October 2011? how far has it come since i was passed from scot forestalls hands to Eddy Cues hands? i've never used Siri until the last 2 days. and i'm thoroughly happy with it.
i've been using apps like reminders and notes for a long while but it feels like a cumbersome process or a chore to input these things - now that i have siri it feels like such a breeze that i will actually use reminders and notes for about everything rather than just important things.
i'm curious to know what peoples expectations were back in 2011 and why siri was disappointing for some - for me, as it is now, i am thoroughly delighted -
Siri works with all the main functional applications the iPhone has that i can tell - operating with calls, contacts, music, app launching, web search, email checking, etc.
on top of that, it knows enough about things i think are worthy.
i'm sure Googles 'Now' is better since google have been in search for over 10 years and know everything about everything i bet. but i think Siri is an accomplishment - and i would never expect A.I. in beta to be perfect or know everything.
maybe it was hardly what it is now back in 2011 but if it was anywhere close, i certainly think its worth an upgrade. i can't imagine using an iPhone 4, instead of a 4s now.
