Hi all,
After all the help and guidance Macrumors has given me I thought I would write a personal review of the 2017 MacBook Pro with TB.
Having a range of Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, Apple TV and finally an 2011 IMAC, I recently took the plunge and ordered my first Macbook Pro. This was the base model 2017 MacBook Pro 13" model with touchbar in space grey.
Hardware
As per previous experience with Apple devices, the laptop came smartly packaged with charging cable, stickers etc.
The laptop was incredibly thin and lightweight whilst still feeling solid and an excellent build quality. With the TB model, 4 USBC ports are available which makes charging/use easier.
I think this makes the ideal compromise between power, price and portability when compared with 12" and 15"
I also love the space grey colour as feels subtle and smart looking and the touchpad whilst large allows great gestures even with my large hands.
The screen although smaller than my iMac is absolutely stunning with it's retina display and makes my iMac look the poor cousin now (time for an upgrade me thinks).
Use
Powering the machine on, I was hugely surprised how fast it was compared to my 2011 IMAC I guess mainly because of the super fast SSD and processor.
The device powered up quickly and went through the simple setup process. I also was able to restore data from Time Machine from my iMac.
So far I am really pleased in use. The touchpad is really good, the MacOS is super smooth and so far whilst I haven't used the touch bar too much it seems useful in the apps I have used so far and like the touch ID integration/logon.
The keyboard was a concern prior to purchase, but actually whilst fairly firm to type on is accurate and good to use.
Battery life has been pretty good with easily 8-10 hours of normal use, email etc.
Overall
For general use I would strongly recommend the MacBook Pro with touch bar. It seems to tackle most tasks with ease and features functionality such as the touch bar which is clearly going to become more and more intuitive.
Whilst not the cheapest laptop out there, when compared like to like with many other laptops actually the MacBook pro wins on many fronts especially the unique integration of hardware and software.
Well done Apple.
Any questions please ask but hope this helps other people considering their first MacBook pro.
