Hey all, thought I would post a link to my new site on the board. It is my first site ever, and I am still working to get the text flowing smoother on the page. With a few small gliches, I think the page turned out ok. By the way, this site was designed FOR me, not BY me... I need to spend my time playing music, not designing flash intros. SO tell me what you think of the site.. did the guy I have do it for me do a good job? Do you like the content? Do you need a drummer???? Check it out

pretty awesome page. two things i would change if it was my site. i would allow an option to turn off the track that is playing. not saying the music is bad, but if someone has itunes or something running in the background they can turn it off. also the text is pretty small on the pages. i could read it, but i also have that young eagle vision :)

I pretty much agree with iJon. The site looks great, but it would be nice to turn off the music and the text could be bigger.
But really, the site itself looks great.

I like it but how the about me, news, media, etc links flash is kinda annoying. Other wise its a good site.

I agree. The 'Enter' button does it, too.

I'm glad I don't have epilepsy

Very nice, though!

Hmmm. They always put warnings about photosensitive epileptic seizures on video games I wonder how many people have it?

i like the mp3s but when it loads in Safari it just loads it in the same window and then when i click Back i go back to the Enter page... perhaps some way to change that? plus one of the pictures has a bad URL, you're missing a ".com". but i really love the site, very creative.

Thanks for all the input! Yes the non-stop music is annoying, and I'm having my web guy change it to one continous loop of five different song samples (as oppossed to two continous loops of 10 second samples from a song) that has an on/off option. With the text, he says it is easier to have one text throughout the site so I can update it easier myself. However, I asked him for a bigger font size, some font variations, and also some text that sticks out along the page to make it easier for a viewer to scan (example.. in my bio I am going to have the first word or important phrase in a larger and more eye-catching font. Remember, this is the MTV generation w/short attention span who are used to scanning everything). Other than that, I mostly happy with the site and a few more updates wil make it a little easier on viewers.

One more minor thing...

I'd also add a scroll bar so that you can see if there is more text to scroll through. Always nice to know how far you gotta go...

overall it's the best personal site i have seen

the text looks small on my 12 inch ibook though...otherwise, job well done

Very cool site, I agree with what's been said so far regarding changes.

I dig the content too - I'm a musician myself. I wante to say I think your tones, not to mention playing, are fantastic. Do you have any straight up Jazz clips recorded?

Excellent work, man.

The flash-on-mouseover for the navigation links at the top is annoying, I agree. May I suggest merely highlighting them in red, or flash once then go red, instead? I think that would go well with the red A's in your name, and be less obtrusive.

Also, the little red A that zooms around while one is reading the various text is distracting. Even though a lot of people have learned to tune out movement on websites because of banner ads, the last thing you want to do on your own website is to imitate that experience by having thingamajiggers zooming about while your visitors are trying to read your content. In between reading, like when a page is loading or while navigating the gallery, movement is acceptable.

The gallery, while very cool, does not offer any navigation once you bring up a picture: you have to close the picture and start over from the gallery main page. The more pictures you put up, the more unworkable this will become.

One last thing--I never understood why people have "enter" pages. Yes, I know, I've already gone to your site, now why aren't I there? Why make people go through an extra step to get to the real thing?

Other than those few things--the minimalist-but-designed look is very nice, and you've got a good start on content. I wouldn't put your phone number up there, though, unless you're absolutely cool with anyone anywhere in the world, no matter how crazy they are, giving you a call. :D

Wow... thanks for the kind words. You just made my day. I do have lots of straight up jazz recordings... Jazz Performance was my major in college, though I think you really learn how to play on the gig, scene, whatever you want to call it. I will be posting some straight-ahead recordings soon. Personally though, I want to focus on other areas of performance. Jazz vocalist Kevin Mahoganey once told me "Focus on the music of your youth. That is what you understand and love the most".

i really respect jazz musicians since most of the really good ones i know are competent sight readers...i really enjoy guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, etc and most rock and roll can be easily learned on those instruments by ear

but much of jazz is really hard to just do by ear unless one has a really great ear...every now and then i will hear about a jazz musician who cannot read music and will learn everything by memorization...i knew a guitarist who could play lead guitar and play all the chords even though he didn't know what any of them were called ;)

sometimes when i come up with a good jazz lick/passage, i wish i had a recorder there and it bugs me that i don't read music well enough to be able to just jot it down so i could come back to it later and pick up right where i left off from...too many people who don't read music underestimate its importance and it shows in their inability to play certain tunes

i remember back in college (where my roomate was a music minor) and he had to score out a 3 against 2 beat and then play it...he has the hardest time trying to play it but had no trouble writing it down...for me, it was the opposite, he he, the beat came naturally to me but i had the worst time, in music theory 101, trying to write it down...he was astounded that i could just slap out the beat but not be able to write it down

he graduated with his minor in music, major in engineering, and became a lifelong engineer...he loves music but went into engineering because it was "safer" and the world was robbed of another potentially good musician because the field doesn't pay what it should...if i felt music was as widespread and lucrative as high tech, i would drop everything and learn how to play music immediately ;)

Wow, great first website. Looks really clean on a 20" Cinema (fonts fine), however, I think that a different font may do you some good. It may bring the size up, and look clearer. Right now, it feels jagged, and for such a great website, looks bad. Just my own opinion.

real cool

good music, but plz have an option to pause it, its more user friendly.
also the flashy bits in the biginning are a bit nerve reckning.
but for the rest... really cool page.

Wow duys... thanks for all of the feedback! I've had my guy clean it up a bit. The fonts are better but I still want some more interesting font choices and actual linkage. I'm trying to get him to put a two or three minute loop on the site that has 3-4 examples on it, but also has an on/off option. I can't stay on him too much because I am putting together a DVD in lieu of a regular audition tape for this high-profile act I'm being screened for. With Pro Tools and my G5, and iMovie/iDVD is working great for being entry level, I hope to knock their socks off. Again, thanks for the input!
