My friend's iPhone 6 plus is slower than my 6... is this normal?

A friend and I at work compared the speed of the UI on our iphones, both with a touch ID unlock and a double tap to access the multitasking screen and in both cases my iPhone 6 responded about 1 second faster than his 6 plus.

For example I'd hold one phone in each hand and double tap the home buttons simultaneously and my 6 would jump to the multitasking screen while his 6 Plus would wait a second before responding.

Is this normal or a known issue? Could this be a sign of a hardware issue with his 6 Plus?

You sure he doesn't have any triple-click accessibility features on? My 6 Plus is exactly the same speed at both tasks as my wife's 6.

We checked and he has nothing enabled in accessibility. No triple-click options etc. I thought maybe it took a second longer to respond because the phone has more pixels to drive but that sounds un apple-like and in general not very likely. Hmm...
