My function buttons dont work- help!

For instance, when I press f12 it brings up widgets instead of changing the volume. Brightness buttons do nothing etc...

Its a pre unibody that I just restored.

System Preferences> Keyboard> Keyboard Tab... Make sure that the 'Use all F1, F2, etc. keys..' isn't checked.

And actually f10 and f12 are the only keys that do anything. All the other buttons are useless.

That's kinda weird. Maybe a restart is in order?
