My i-phone ( first generation) is saying it is al ways connected to the dock.

I bought an i phone to use as an ipod untill i can save up the money to buy the data plan, but everytime i try and play music on it it tells me the accessory is not made for this i phone. the problem is i dont have it plugged into anything. then when i go to the music shortcut ( hitting home button twice) it tells me it is connected to the dock, but it still isnt plugged into anything. Ive tried turning it off. Is there anything i can do or did i buy something useless?

Sounds like the dock connector is broken. You could try to replace it yourself or go to apple to have them fix it for a fee.

Have you had any water damage? You also might have to clean your dock with a small paint brush.
