My iCal is almost unusable

It takes a few seconds (sometimes almost a minute) before I can actually enter anything even changing the views from "List" to "Day" to "Month". When I enter an event I see the sync indicator and it looked like it's syncing it somewhere. I have iOS 5 and I'm not connected to iCloud or Mobile Me
