Yeah i just waited for the imac to say insert disks but it didnt so i just followed what was going on the screen, im doing software updates now, did i need to install the disks or are they for something else
 
OS X is already installed on the computer. Those disks are your original install disks, in case you ever needed to reinstall OS X. You can also run some utilities from them if you're having problems.

Point being: tuck them away somewhere safe. You don't need them now, but you might at some point in the future.
