My Imac jerky scrolling problem

My Imac running snow Leopard and OSX 10.6.8 has jerky scrolling when it comes out of a sleep mode.I have smooth scrolling checked but it doesnt matter.The only way i get smooth scrolling is to shut down my Imac and restart it which is a pain since i always put my machine in sleep mode when not using it and rarely shut it down.Anyone know a cure for this?
 
Well today after waking from sleep mode scrolling seems smooth.Perhaps shutting down my imac at least once a week keeps problems like this from appearing.
