My iMac Late 09 slowing down. Best way to get it back to normal?

Purchased couple of cleaning apps on the web & ran them. Did not solve the problem. Some pages take forever to load showing "resolving host".

What else can I try to solve the problem?

I just got it hooked to my home network and now evry computer in the house nas a super slow internet connection including the imac. When I disconnect the imac everything is fine. I have adsl connection, the app on my iphone is showing between 12-15 without imac and barely 1 with it (download speed).

Bring up the activity monitor network tab and see what on your iMac is using so much network bandwidth. A program like "Little Snitch" might be worth trying also.
