Currently, I have three iPhones logged into my Apple ID. My main iPhone (6s+) and two secondary phones (a 4s and a 5).

I have been trying to have my 6s+ forward text messages to the 5 but every time I press the slider the notification to give me the code to enter does not appear on the screen of the 5.

Today I solved that. And I am going to show my solution in case anyone else might have this problem.

Originally, the iPhone 5 was my primary phone. It's a Sprint iPhone 5 and because of the nature of the Sprint SIM it has retained my phone number though it's still deactivated.

The iPhone 4s is using an expired Straight Talk SIM I have in there just so I don't have a "No SIM" message. Consequently it has NO phone number.

It occured to me to remove the SIM from the iPhone 5 and attempt to activate iMessage again. When I did that and then set my 6s+ to forward messages to the 5 the phone number appeared in the iMessage settings on the 5 and that screen that has the code allowing the forward popped up. So, now I am able to forward to the 5 from my 6s+.

Putting the SIM back in the iPhone 5 removed the phone number on the 5 but as forwarding had already been set on the 6s+ it no longer matters.

Just wanted to share how I got this to work.
