I would like to share my recent experience with Apple Maps is iOS16.....
I had a vacation planned to Oahu and had a day trip planned with multiple stops. I had plotted my route using Google Maps back in April and texted myself the itinerary to recall closer to the trip. Once I heard that iOS 16 Maps would have multistep added, I installed the public beta once it was available.
My trip was in July. I loaded my stops into Apple Maps and my rental (Hui) had CarPlay! The day trip was set with 9 stops all along the east of Oahu, the Pali Overlook, and then up to the North Shore. I had Waze on at the same time just to compare the two (even though I had to enter each stop one at a time).
I am glad to say that Apple Maps performed superbly for the whole trip except the portion from the Pali overlook to the botanical gardens. It had me make a wrong turn going to the rear entrance of the gardens. Once I figured out it was wrong, I re-entered the POI and it then corrected itself to the correct entrance. To be fair, Waze made the same error.
The other nice thing was if it sensed that I made an unscheduled stop, it would ask if I would like to pause the route. I could then resume once I plugged back in.
For those wondering, it was a delightful experience and would assume it would work even better in larger metro areas.
