iTunes says I have 9GB free. Before you restore to factory settings, look in iTunes at the bottom usage bar to see how is that memory being used (Music, Video, Photos, Apps, etc.), and you'll have a better idea on where to look for the memory 'leak'.
Then post your findings.
4GB. I have a lot of stuff in Goodreader. Is there an overly large amount of data partitioned for apps within your occupied space?
Is your iPad jailbroken?
Are you thinking I should get rid of the iPad since I find ios devices too limiting unless they are jailbroken?Hmmmmm.
I think the solution is obvious.

I was thinking that they just meant you should restore the device using iTunes and see if the problem persists. Are you thinking I should get rid of the iPad since I find ios devices too limiting unless they are jailbroken?
ok. I thought you were saying I shouldn't be jailbreaking. No, because I jailbreak myself. But you should realize that if your device isn't working properly, it might be time to look at what you have done post-jailbreak, and try a restore.
It never occurred to me that I might still have the problem after restoring.I was thinking that they just meant you should restore the device using iTunes and see if the problem persists.

It will be a lot of work to redo everything. My concern is that since I don't know what caused the problem I could go through all that work and then end up in the same situation again.
