My iPAD1 recently refuses to turn the screen when the iPad is turned 90 or 180 degrees. Any help please?

Make sure you don't have rotation lock turned on. It's either the switch on the side above the voume buttons, or if not, it's the button on the very left of the multitask bar.
Assuming you don't have screen lock on, try rebooting your iPad. Once mine got stuck after using an app (Pocket Frogs) that only runs in one orientation, and that fixed it. It hasn't happened again since, and I play the game several times a day; no clue what caused it that time.
