My iphone 3GS will not go into DFU mode( Yes I am doing it correctly )

My 3GS will not go into DFU mode No matter what i do. I hold down the home and power button at the EXACT same time and it turns on after 2 seconds.. and believe me I have put MANY iphones into dfu mode and to see / prove i was doing it right.. i put my girlfriends iphone into DFU mode first try no problem..and i put my old 2G iphone into DFU mode no problem..just when i try my 3GS it will NOT NOT NOT go into dfu mode no matter how many times i try..

I am trying to downgrade my firmware because ..my phone messed up yesterday with my itunes and i erased all content and settings and HAD to restore with 3.1.. it wouldnt let me restore with my 3.0 ..

I find for my 3GS its different then the instructions I have found.

Follow this one and it seems to work. The image doesn't come up on the phone all the time though.
