Trying to add a datapoint for those wondering what's happening with battery replacements for the 6+.
I went to my local Apple store (central Ohio) last Friday afternoon with no expectations. I just wanted to get my phone into the queue for a battery. I expected it would be weeks to get the 6+ battery. The store was fairly busy. I had a backup on my laptop just in case. My 6+ has never had an issue (except slowdowns) since I bought it the month it was released. My serial number was included in the OIS camera recall but mine never had a problem so I never had that fixed.
My phone had the warning message under Battery in Settings and was losing power rapidly off the charger. It was dropping from 100% to nothing in 1-2 hrs of use. It was dying even faster in the cold outside and would quickly shutdown. After about fifteen minutes of waiting and checking in my phone, the Apple Genius ran a diagnostic that showed my battery was in fact virtually useless. They checked to see if they had a battery in stock. It turned out they did and could fix it in 3hrs. I didn't have three hours that day and they said they would keep the battery reserved for me for ten days.
I returned to the store yesterday afternoon five days after my first visit. They had the battery and could replace the battery within two hours. I dropped my phone off with fingers crossed. I returned to pick up my phone and had to wait a little longer for them to finish the repair. It took fifteen minutes longer than the estimated time. The repair seems flawless and all my stuff was still there and my iOS was still at 10.3.3. I have the 128GB version with about 35GB free. It's pretty full of music, videos and pics. I have some legacy apps that I want to keep using a little longer and haven't upgraded to iOS 11. The replacement battery showed 22% charge.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the process had been. All the Apple store employees that I encountered were friendly and helpful but it was clear they were under some stress. It seems that Apple is getting a handle on the battery replacement process.
