I have been using this setup with my last few gen iPhone. With iPhone 7Plus, it is no different. When Apple announced the audio jack removal, it does not bother me as I hardly use it. I preferred lightning port in my case.

Any difference in sound quality compared to the audio jack?

In before the "but how would you change and listen at the same time?" crowd.

Is that DAC it's connected to?

The audio signal comes out off the iPhone via lightning port is pure digital signal and being feed to a better DAC/Amp will give a better clean sound. I typically no charge the phone while listening. It is not a real issue for me, at least not how I have been using it.
