my iphone is not detected in itunes on d macbook

have a 2g apple iphone which is upgraded to a 3GS.
My phone is not detected on the itunes on my macbook when I plug it in. It is not mounted on Iphoto either.
The phone just keeps charging but cannot be synced. I have erased and reinstalled the latest version of itunes. I have tried restoring the Iphone as well. But nothing seems to work.

Just a thought...I'd try to restore in DFU mode. Just make sure it's restored as a new phone.

It's worth a shot.
