My iPhone will not automatically go to sleep

lf I do not press the sleep/wake button then my phone will not turn off by its self, does anyone know why? I have not messed with any settings, it is not jail broken and it is in good condition. I have tried resetting my phone and turning it off and on, it has not helped.
