My iPhone won't ring

I bought my iPhone SE (2022), having never had an iPhone before.

For some strange reason, incoming calls trigger only a vibration. The phone does not ring.

How do I set this up so the phone actually rings during an incoming call?

Be sure you're not in "silent mode":

Select ringtones on iPhone

In Phone on iPhone, assign distinctive ringtones to certain people, and turn the ringer on or off.

Also check Settings > Sounds & Haptics and be sure your "Ringtone and alert volume" is all the way up.
