i just dropped my iphone 3g during lunch today and the screen cracked. There's parts of the screen where the glass is sharp and falling off, and there are parts of the screen where the cracks are below the surface and the top glass is still smooth.

for reference, bought the iphone in july 08, it has no applecare.
I walked by the apple store after lunch and they told me it they could give me a replacement for $199.

On another note, my friend has an iphone 3g that is broke from water damage. is it possible to use his screen and put it on my phone?? or did the water damage ruin his screen too?

It would be like the Megazord of iPhones!

yup, it's the free option i have right now so I'm going to give it a try. Hopefully it will work!

I don't think it'll fit. I'm not sure of exact dimensions but the glass covering the screen of the 3G is a little bigger than the original.

IT WORKED!!

Following a youtube video, I removed my smashed touchscreen+lcd and swapped it with my buddies water damaged 3g touchscreen+lcd. The process took all of 5 minutes, and saved me $200.

I put my damaged screen on his waterlogged phone and took a pic of it with my now working iphone :)

So now his old 3g is water damaged with a cracked screen, lol.
