My iPod app controls are gone!

When I go into my ipod app to play music, audiobooks, etc, most of my controls have disappeared.

The only controls that remain are skip forward and skip back. Meanwhile, 30 second skip, shuffle, repeat, etc are all gone, they're just not there any more.

What gives?

In Now Playing, right under the title, tap the screen, and they will magically reappear.
