I just dragged a bunch of mp3s to my iTunes. It added them because I saw it saying "copying files" and then "determining volume."

But they aren't in my library!

I closed iTunes and opened again. Not there.

I used iVolume and it sees them and adjusts the volume.

Not there in iTunes.

I go to the actual directory and they are there but NOT in iTunes!

Help!

Last time i checked (itunes 5), following those steps as instructed by that kbdoc came with a few unforeseen consequences. If you do (or already did) recreate the library that way, check your songs to see if they still have their former customized "Options"
for volume, EQ preset, start time, stop time, and rating.

[of course —if you hadn't customized any settings for start time, stop time, etc., —then there's nothing to "check"... so, no harm no foul.]

As far as the original issue goes, do you have a 'recently added' smart playlist?
E.g., [Date Added] [is in the last] [3] [days] or something like that?

I go to the actual directory and they are there but NOT in iTunes!
What happened when (if) you double-clicked one of those files in Finder?

I had this happen to me before, it's some sort of conflict with the mp3 itself, it might have some form of corruption or it may be using something foreign to iTunes. Try running it through an outside converter then import it.

I have a similar issue with 10.1 in that a song I purchased appears in the Purchased and Recently Added playlists but not in the library itself. In the meantime it happily syncs over to the All Songs list on my iPhone
