My JB 3gs upgrade options?

I have the 3GS MC131LL Version 3.1.3 (7E18) jailbroken. I dont exactly remember how I jailbroke it, lol. It was about a year ago.

What version of the o.s. can I upgrade to and still jailbreak my phone?
I think I would also like to be able to run Cydia and I have it on my phone now and I believe I allowed it to handle my SSH. Cydia has a note about upgrading to 4.0.2 saying I can only upgrade to 4.0.1 is this true?

I'm also running iTunes 9.2.0.61
Where can I read which iTues I can upgrade to with my new upgraded iphone OS. Which plays nice with which?
