long story short, my laptop( a G3 ibook) got run over by a honda pilot (twice), and when i picked it up, the screen was all skewed up, but , lo and behold, when i booted it up, i could hear the wonderful apple chime, and my computer was ressurected (sorry bout the spelling-i'm on an M$ box) needless to say, the screen is pretty f'd up, but i can still see the regular GUI in one corner.......SPEAD THE STORY- a M$ "crappy lappy" wouldn't stand a chance under an SUV!

will post pics once i find the cable for the camera..... :D :D

-a VERY happy mac owner

First time in a while that I've seen a "my iBook was run over by a car and it still works" thread. Those iBooks are f***ing tough!

That´s cool, shame about the screen, though. Looking forward to seeing the pics! I also have a ´book against car story:

My TiBook was in the boot when I got hit from behind by a Toyota van. I was standing still, the Toyota came in at 50MPH. Needless to say, my car got written off, but out of the wreckage I could pull out my belowed PowerBook. It had a few bruises and a few cracks in the white rim but no functional damage. An annoying dead pixel survived too. Still, I´m happy I didn´t get any more...

The white Macs are tough! :)

This reminds me of when I was carrying my eMac down Michigan Avenue to the Apple Store to be repaired and I dropped it

The darn thing hit the ground, BOUNCED, then landed on the screen, and it booted up like nothing had happened :)

it got run twice because we were backing up, and felt something under the wheel, so we went foreward again, had someone to check what it was and they only checked behind the car, not under it (i put it down, and it fell over) so we drove over it again.

damn, i have to restart this M$ box just to view pictures! i miss my mac.

ahahah, thats funny, you could always take a hammer to the display, connect your iBook to the TV and add a blue tooth mouse and keyboard, and PRESTO! - you have a fully functioning, over priced, under powered computer!

And by the way, you might want to change your sig, it suppost to go like so:

Windows is a 32-bit extension to a 16-bit graphical shell for an 8-bit operating system originally coded for a 4-bit microprocessor by a 2-bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

When did Microsoft start making laptops? How does the presence of a Microsoft operating system reduce the durability of the laptop? Some how Dell, IBM laptops are worse physical quality because of the software on it. Go figure.

Think...

omg that reminds of the movie duplex

the old lady upstairs accidentily throws his pismo in the fireplace then he picks it up and it burns him so he throws it it lands in the street where it is run ove by a tow truck and the car its towing :D

[michael jackson]That's ignorant[/michael jackson]

Neither would any notebook w/ current SUVs weighing in at 5 tons avg. honda pilot's a light weight. I like to see you rave about how "tough" your ibook is after oprah sat on it.

hold on..why on EARTH was your iBook just sitting on the floor behind your back tire (assuming it was the back tire)? Did you reluctantly set it there? lol...i can only imagine

Honda Pilot: check
G3 iBook: check
Earth: check

maybe the car has more than one tire on each side?

I would consider that pair of tires as a single run-over event.

When grandma got runover by a reindeer, she didn't get runover 4 times.
The day my ma got out of prison and i went to pick her up in the rain, she didn't get runover by 50 times by the wheels of a locomotive, no, she was just runover once by that damned ol' train.

I bet my powerbook would survive.. I propose a test, I shall run over my powerbook alu tonight with my car. Midsize sedan...

look, i'm glad your Macintosh is still working and all, but Microsoft doesn't make laptops. likewise, installing Debian on your x86 notebook will not make it invulnerable to Hezbollah, i mean, SUV drivers. i thought your Mom said, "no Kool-Aid after 9 p.m."

LOL!!!!

as for M$ laptops. . . yes M$ does not make laptops.
but i think the companies that make laptops for M$ OS may be stronger. 1) they are huge and heavy so there is actually more mass and area to spread out the overall force from the SUV. 2) they have huge heat sinks for the P4 inside. this may ad extra structural integrity. 3) with the extra power brick you have to carry around everywhere adds to the supporting structure of the laptop b/c it is probably sitting close by(remeber batteries on most M$ laptops last about 20 min . . . so you must always remain plugged in)
so. . . if a car could make it over the huge pile of laptop/powerbrick/externaldrives i think an M$ laptop might stand a chance of survival b/c of size/weight strenght of such laptops. in my opinion most huge M$ using laptops would be better used as a car chock than as a laptop that might get run over!
