My Mac and Guitar no longer play nicely together

The sound input jack on my PowerPC G4 (2.1) is shot to hell. I plugged my guitar into a stereo step-down adapter. It was never an optimal connection, but I wish I had it back.

I use Garageband, but, hardly ever use for recording. I use it for live monitoring with headsets during downtime at work. (OK, sometimes playing is more important than work.) I have built and downloading some cool amp simulators and filters.

I tried a Lightsnake, but I can not stand that latency issue. There is an awful delay that beguiles my muse:confused:

Is there a PCI device that will get sound into my

soundcard?

Thanks

What kind of guitar do you have have and what kind of input are you trying to use? Some information on the adapter would be good as well. I'm not very experienced with this sort of issue, but perhaps some more info would help others to assist you.

Griffin iMic is the cheapest general purpose USB line interface.

For better sound on guitar however, consider the Line6 TonePort or the M-Audio BlackBox. For general purpose input, there are lots of USB and Firewire interfaces from Edirol and MAudio.
