hi,

how is this possible?

I shut down before going to bed - 100% certain, no doubts - and I just woke up a few minutes ago. I was on the other side of the room and the Mac powered up?

regards

Go to console, look for Wake.

It will tell you the reason.

Matthew Yohe; thanks for answering

I'm not an expert by any means, but it would seem like something connected to your USB woke your mac up. Seems it was sleeping and not turned off. It happened to me a few times when I was using a wireless keybord and mouse, sometimes I would wake up myself and my mac was up. Didn't know what had happened, until I checked and found out that at some point during the night, for some unknown reason, either the mouse or the kb would wake up the mac. It only happened like twice in a year, but still, it wasn't expected.

Your Mac was in sleep mode, not shut down. During the night, a USB device woke your Mac (hard to say why without known what the device is), then your Mac automatically reconnected to your wireless network.

You can wake a Mac with USB, Bluetooth, or network activity.

not sleep, shutdown

don't know which is USB port 3 but I have a keyboard, mouse and portable hard drive
