I came home the other night and found that my Mac Pro had lost the video signal. When it woke from sleep mode, my ACD just remained a black screen. At first I thought there was something wrong with the monitor or something else fishy going on because my computer was running. I did a force restart and listened as my computer went through the start up routines. The screen remained dark. Then I suspected it was the X1900 video card, so I made an appointment at the Apple store to see if I could swap it out with a new one or something else.

At the Apple store, they pulled the ram and swapped out the card with a geoforce and then started up the computer with a different monitor. Still got a dark screen. Reset the P-ram, shuffled the ram chips, reset the mother board, but nothing worked. The Apple dude told me I had something more serious wrong and would need to admit it for observation. So, I brought it home so that I could prep it to go in for repair; I needed to see if I could log in and pull the data. I was able to get into the computer with my laptop using target disk mode; all of the drive mounted on my desktop and I could access the data ok. The strange thing is, my Mac Pro seemed to be working great... it just won't output the video signal. I can hear it chime when it starts and runs though the startup cycle.

Anyone have anything I can try before sending it away for repair? I've done the following:

Tried different video card
Tried moving video card to a different PCI slot
Took out all ram and left the stock Apple ram
Took out stock Apple ram and tried only 3rd party ram
Reset motherboard
Reset P-ram
Tried different monitor

I hope it's not the logic board! It's out of warranty and I hate the thought of putting $500 into a first generation machine. It's a 2.66 and going on two years old. I know... should have bought Apple Care, but I couldn't afford it when it came due. I gambled and lost.
