My Mac suddenly can't access my external drive

…on my machine running 10.7.5. I've done all sorts or searches, changed ports, etc….. My Roku, however, CAN access it. I want to add more content to watch on TV with my Roku, but am flummoxed. Ideas?
 
Please add some more details:
Is it connected via USB? or is it connected via WiFi or Ethernet?
What manufacturer & model?
Please define access - you can't see it at all in Finder?
Have you recently installed new software?
