when i press the power button.
1. Hear the tone
2. Get grey screen with icon & spinning wheel
3. The status bar flickers, then instantly dissapears.
4. Computer goes off!
I have also unsuccessfully tried to boot in safe mode. Same result.

Please help me i have to save my data!!!

I'm using mountain lion by the way!

Any ideas? Suggestions?

With another Thunderbolt equipped Mac and a TB cable you should be able to force your computer to start in Target Disk Mode and access your data that way.

I don't know if this is late, but that means your hard drive is disconnected, go to an apple store, and if that doesn't work i HIGHLY recommend you to take it to a professional hard drive person to retrieve it, it costed me around 500 dollars, but its worth the money
